小型无翅六足动物（长度150微米至9毫米），具有明显的头部、一对触角、无真正的复眼和六个腹节及三个前肛突起。栖息于土壤中，是土壤生态系统的重要分解者及指示生物，常用于生态毒理学测试，特定物种为Folsomia candida。
